Heritage Stud Book

Mares, Fillies, Stallions, Colts or Geldings Eligible horses must satisfy ONE of the following:

  • Two STUD BOOK registered Australian Stock Horses parents (and sire compliant with ASHS sire registration rules)
  • One STUD BOOK and One SECOND CROSS registered Australian Stock Horse parents (and sire compliant with ASHS sire registration rules)

AND MUST have a minimum of 87.5% AUSTRALIAN STOCK HORSE HERITAGE LINEAGE. Descendant of the breeds ridden by the Australian Light Horse in World War I, OR breeds existing in Australia prior to 1945.

Second Cross

  • One STUD BOOK and One FIRST CROSS registered Australian Stock Horse parents 
    (and sire compliant with ASHS sire registration rules)
  • Two SECOND CROSS registered Australian Stock Horse parents 
    (and sire compliant with ASHS sire registration rules)

First Cross

Mares, Fillies or Geldings Eligible horses must satisfy ONE of the following (Stallions not eligible*):

  • One STUD BOOK and One BASE REGISTRY registered Australian Stock Horses parents (and sire compliant with ASHS sire registration rules)
  • One STUD BOOK registered Australian Stock Horse parent and One UNREGISTERED or NON-Australian Stock Horse parent (if sire is ASH registered, sire compliant with ASHS sire registration rules)
  • One SECOND CROSS and One FIRST CROSS registered Australian Stock Horses parents (and sire compliant with ASHS sire registration rules)
  • Two FIRST CROSS registered Australian Stock Horses parents (and sire compliant with ASHS sire registration rules)

       * Stallions and Colts will NOT be eligible for First Cross Registration.

Base Registry

Mares, Fillies, Stallions, Colts & Geldings Eligible horses must satisfy ONE of the following:

  • One registered Australian Stock Horse parent recognised as HERITAGE STOCK HORSE 
  • One registered Australian Stock Horse grandparent recognised as HERITAGE STOCK HORSE 
  • Two registered Australian Stock Horse great-grandparents recognised as HERITAGE STOCK HORSE

Breeding Purposes Only

Mares, Fillies, Stallions or Colts Eligible horses must SATISFY the following (Geldings not eligible):

  • Thoroughbred registered in the Thoroughbred Stud Book (Horses registered by a Thoroughbred Stud Book authority, recognised by the International Stud Book Committee (ISBC). 

Race eligible horses, registered in a Non-Thoroughbred Register (or similar), are NOT eligible. Breeding Purposes horses will be accepted as equivalent to Second Cross Registered ASH.  Breeding Purposes horses will NOT be eligible for ASH events, awards and sales.
